Overview
What Is BRC Certification?
BRC certification means your site has passed an audit against a BRCGS Global Standard. The first food standard came out in 1998. Today it is recognised by GFSI, so retailers worldwide accept it.
The current food standard is Issue 9
Strictly speaking, Sedex doesn’t issue a “certificate”. What you get is an audit report and, once findings are closed, a record your buyers accept. People still call it Sedex certification, and that’s fine.
Worth knowing: we prepare you for the audit. The audit and certificate come from an independent certification body approved by BRCGS.

Why It Matters
What BRC Certification Does For You
01
Opens retail doors
Many UK and EU retailers ask suppliers for a GFSI-recognised certificate.
02
Fewer buyer audits
Your report sits in the BRCGS Directory, so buyers can check it directly.
03
Fewer recalls and complaints
Strong HACCP and foreign-body controls catch problems early.
04
Grade shows your strength
A high grade means fewer findings and a longer audit cycle.

How We Work
Our BRC Certification Process
Timelines assume a reasonably organised site. The gap analysis tells us early if more time is needed.
01
Gap analysis
Week 1–2
We walk the site and check records against Issue 9. You get a priority fix list.
02
HACCP & documentation
Weeks 2–8
HACCP plan, food safety manual, procedures and records, written for how your site really works.
03
Training & site fixes
Alongside
Staff training, hygiene zoning, pest and glass control. Your team handles the physical changes.
04
Internal audit & mock audit
2–3 weeks before
A full dry run, including a traceability test and recall exercise.
05
Certification audit
On-site
We help you choose an accredited certification body and stay available on audit day.
06
Corrective actions
Within 28 days
Evidence for each finding must reach the certification body within 28 calendar days. We help with root cause and closure.
From The Audit Floor
Common BRC Audit Findings
These come up often in Indian food units. All are fixable with early preparation.
Common finding
How we fix it
- HACCP not validated or reviewed
- Validate critical limits and set a yearly review with the HACCP team.
- Traceability test too slow or incomplete
- Link batch records end to end and practise the test before the audit.
- Weak foreign-body controls
- Glass register, metal detector checks and tool control on the floor.
- Shallow root cause analysis
- Simple RCA format and training so fixes stop repeat issues.
- Supplier approval not risk-based
- Raw material risk assessment and a clear supplier approval route.
