What Is FSSAI Registration?
FSSAI registration is the basic food permit for small food businesses in India. It is issued by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India and gives you a 14-digit FSSAI number to print on your labels and menus.
Every food business needs either a registration or a licence, including home kitchens, shops and online sellers.

Small food units, home bakers, shops, cafes.
Mid-size
State Licence
₹1.5 cr – ₹50 cr
Larger manufacturers, restaurants and traders.

Above ₹50 crore
Big businesses, and some like importers regardless of size.
Good news: the old ₹12 lakh limit is gone. Many businesses that needed a State Licence before can now take simple registration.

Who needs FSSAI registration?
Every food business in India needs either FSSAI registration or a licence. From 1 April 2026, basic registration applies to businesses with annual turnover up to ₹1.5 crore.
Do I need to renew FSSAI registration?
Under the 2026 amendment, registrations no longer need periodic renewal. You must still pay the yearly fee on time, or the registration can be suspended.
What is the government fee for FSSAI registration?
The government fee for basic registration is ₹100 per year.
Can I sell online with FSSAI registration?
Yes. Platforms like Swiggy, Zomato and Amazon ask for a valid FSSAI number before you can list food products.
